Develop and promote the evidence base of occupational therapy

The second aim in our operational framework is to develop the evidence base of occupational therapy. One route to achieving this is supporting the academic development of occupational therapists.

In line with this we offer funding to individuals undertaking doctoral level studies leading to the production of evidence and further building research capacity and expertise within the profession. There are two application points a year to seek funding support.

The Elizabeth Casson Trust is a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) non-commercial Partner. This means the studies we fund may be eligible to access the NIHR Study Support Service which is provided by the NIHR Clinical Research Network. PFind out what this means for you here.

Case Studies

The funding from the Elizabeth Casson Trust enabled me to complete year 3 of my professional doctorate studies at Sheffield Hallam. This year has involved modules on methodology and methods, and completion of a literature review. I have also completed the DPS1 and ethics applications which have all been passed. Although module 5 runs throughout the course, this year I submitted module 5 professional portfolio of advanced practice.
