One Week to Go: Strike A Light: The Art and Science of Occupational Therapy

There is just one week to go until the opening of “Strike A Light: The Art and Science of Occupational Therapy,” and the final pieces are falling into place.

This week has been all about the physicality of the exhibition, the satisfying, hands-on work of making things real. We have been framing works, carefully considering how each piece sits within its mount and how it will meet the eye of a visitor seeing it for the first time. There is something special about that moment when artwork moves from a digital file or a studio into a frame; it becomes something real and tangible, and we can now see what everything looks like together.

Our signage is also coming together. The words that guide visitors through an exhibition matter more than people might realise. We have worked hard to try and set the tone of the exhibition in an accessible and engaging way. Getting the language right, so that it speaks to occupational therapists and people who may discovering it for the first time has been a labour of love!

Perhaps the most exciting milestone of the week: the largest artwork in the exhibition has gone to print. We can’t share too much just yet, but the scale of it feels right for the scale of the story we are telling. The artwork was specially commissioned for this space and provides the backdrop for an important part of the exhibition. Getting it to print felt like a very pivotal moment in the exhibition coming to life.

One of the great joys of bringing this exhibition to life has been the number of artists and partners we have had the privilege of working alongside. From individual artists who have trusted us with their work and their stories, to organisations who share our belief in the power of creativity and occupational therapy. This has been a truly collective endeavour. None of it would be possible without that spirit of collaboration, and we find ourselves feeling genuinely grateful for every conversation, every contribution and every person who has lent their energy to this project.

With seven days to go, we can’t wait to share it with the world!
