Annual Research Call Award Winners for 2025

We are pleased to announce that, following a highly competitive two-stage process, our 2025 Annual Research Award was made to Dr Miranda Cunningham and Colleagues for their study “Employing realist methods to understand how, why and for whom occupational therapy works in primary care.”

The successful team (pictured) said:

“We are delighted to explore the role of occupational therapy in primary care, using realist research methods. Elizabeth Casson Trust funding will enable us to review literature, interview, and engage with occupational therapists and other key stakeholders over two years. This will generate evidence demonstrating the potential of occupational therapy in primary care”.

Professor Avril Drummond, Trustee Lead for Research at the Elizabeth Casson Trust, added:

“We were fortunate to receive several excellent funding bids. However, this proposal stood out given its robust methodology and the importance of the research question in light of the recent NHS Ten Year Plan. We are very much looking forward to the results and the potential implications of these for occupational therapy.”
