Thinking of doing a professional doctorate?

Embarking on further education is a big step, none so much as doctoral studies. Jennifer Beal shares with us her experiences of starting her journey of a professional doctorate.

Jennifer qualified as an occupational therapist from the London school of occupational therapy in 1994. She has specialised in mental health service provision. She spent many years working within the NHS and was responsible for overseeing and developing the low and medium secure therapy and education service. In 2012 Jennifer joined Cygnet Healthcare as Head of Occupational Therapy for Beckton hospital, Blackheath hospital and Lewisham lodge.

Jennifer is driven and focused to improve clinical effectiveness and the experience of mental health care. She regularly presents at local and national professional forums to share developments in occupation focused mental health service provision.

With a passion for professional development Jennifer has completed much training with additional practitioner certificates in sensory integration, sports instructing, complementary medicine and is now studying a professional doctorate at University of East Anglia.

Outside of work Jennifer enjoys a life split between the city and the coast. Leisure time is spent at the gym, dog walking, seeing family and friends.
