Research Funding Call Opens
Key Dates
Expression of interest: 17:00BST, 8 May 2020
Submission (by invitation) deadline: 17:00BST, 3 July 2020
Announcement of awards: 28 August 2020
Summary
We are inviting expressions of interest to fund research findings implementation studies. It is likely that this will be funding for the implementation of research generated from recent or ongoing PhD findings, but is not limited to this. The studies will support the aims of the Elizabeth Casson Trust (http://bit.ly/strategicintentions) and specifically our research aim ‘to support the implementation, translation, adoption of occupation- focused, evidence-based practice by occupational therapists’. Grants up to £100,000 are available under this call to individuals or collective/ groups of individuals and each study should be completed within a maximum of 2 years. We are committed to funding studies that have high potential for significant impact on clinical practice and policy development.
Scope
Proposals are expected to address a clearly defined area of occupational therapy and aim to develop approaches to support translation of evidence into practice.
Research Capacity building
Occupational Therapists often report having positive attitudes towards evidence informed practice[1] but can lack confidence in in the implementation of evidence and in finding, critiquing and applying research evidence within their practice. It is anticipated that implementation studies will support the development of these skills with therapists in a practice environment and will foster a culture that embraces and nurtures knowledge translation that will continue after the study completes.
Research impact
The Trust’s overarching research intention is to ‘help develop and promote the evidence base of occupational therapy in order to increase the understanding of the efficacy and unique contribution of occupational therapists’. Implementation study proposals should clearly address this aim and address, in as much as is possible, the efficacy and unique contribution made by the occupational therapists in the chosen practice setting.
How to apply
Expressions of interest and an outline proposal (download form below) must be submitted to Pam Anderson at [email protected] by the call deadline of 8 May 2020, 17:00BST. Applicants successful at this stage will be invited to submit a detailed proposal (further dates noted above in Key Dates).
