Dee Christie recognised with an OBE
The trustees are proud to announce that Dee Christie, chair of the Elizabeth Casson Trust, has been honoured with an OBE in the New Years Honours for ‘services to the profession’. The award recognises Dee’s long and illustrious career over the past 50 years.
Dee has been our chair since 2020 and has been the lead and inspiration for expanding the Trust’s offerings to occupational therapists. The role of chair is unpaid however Dee’s effort and commitment has never wavered. In fact, throughout her career she has given her time generously to many professional activities across regional groups and committees, culminating in being the Chair of Council for COT (now RCOT) from 2006-9. In 2016-19, Dee was the first allied health professional, let alone OT, to chair a NICE Guideline committee (on Intermediate Care).
Dee’s paid work – she had time for that too! – has been primarily in social care where she led and managed a wide range of services. Underpinning all the roles has been Dee’s passion for offering rehabilitation to individuals in their real-life setting.
Naomi Hankinson, vice chair of the Trust, speaks for the trustees when she said ‘…to see a dedicated, creative expert who has put years of service into raising standards for people receiving occupational therapy acknowledged is truly lovely’. We hope you might agree?
Congratulations, Dee!
