In 2021, Dr Vimal Sriram, Dr Anita Atwal and Professor McKay have received Trust funding to research and develop the evidence base on safe spaces for Black and Minoritised ethnic occupational therapists.
This work has led to a range of research outputs which are all linked below:
Allyship is a term we hear being spoken of more and more, and we’re encouraged to be an ally but what does this really mean and what does it ‘look’ like to be an ally to our colleagues?
A clearer understanding of allyship has emerged from the findings, including the actions of an ally. These have been captured in a short statement and designed into a signature strip, below, by Nina Cooper at Beyond Local.
We invite you to download the image and add it to your signature, if possible. Please disseminate it and help your colleagues and networks think about what an ally is and how they can help to bring about change.
The question cards Question cards – single sided_V1 have also come from Dr Sriram, Dr Atwal and Professor McKay’s work.
They could be used to create a safe space in a range of contexts beyond mentoring, including clinical supervision and on practice placements. Please download and disseminate them!
Creating strong and supportive relationships are an integral part of supporting professional development and career progression. We hope these cards can facilitate these relationships, building trust and increasing openness. Please watch the video below for further information:
